SHOEBOX
Tom Jackson/Jon Park-Wheeler

I keep your memories
Up in a shoebox
I think there’s a picture
And a lock of your hair
There are some letters
Tied up in a ribbon
A locket, an earring
And things you would wear
And there’s so much more
That’s what memories are for

I can hear the tick tock
Of the clock on the mantel
Smell the lilac
On the evening breeze
I can hear the song of the whippoorwill
The raindrops falling through the trees
I can see the sunlight
Dancing in the meadow
Then I see you look my way
For just a little while I’m a young man again
Till it’s time to put the shoebox away

There are some moments
That I see so clearly
That I loved so dearly
We’d waltz so slow
We would go walking
At four in the morning
Love strikes without warning
Then you’d hold me so close
And there’s so much more
That’s what memories are for

I can hear the tick tock
Of the clock on the mantel
Smell the lilac
On the evening breeze
I can hear the song of the whippoorwill
The raindrops falling through the trees
I can see the sunlight
Dancing in the meadow
Then I see you look my way
For just a little while I’m a young man again
Till it’s time to put the shoebox away

And oh, it gives me peace
Gentle sweet release
To hold you in my arms once more

I can see the sunlight
Dancing in the meadow
Then I see you look my way
I’m a young man again
Till it’s time to put the shoebox away
